You will avoid the classic tourist trail on the Salkantay route, getting off the beaten track and discovering the magic of Soraypampa and the hidden beauty of Laguna Humantay - a spectacular lake with clear, turquoise waters and the backdrop of the Humantay Glacier. You will take in coffee plantations and fruit trees, trek through lush jungle, explore Aguas Calientes and, of course, uncover the wonders of the iconic Machu Picchu.
2) The warm and friendly locals…
Who live a peaceful and traditional way of life, which may come as a stark contrast to the culture you’re used to. Dressed in traditional, colourful Peruvian clothing, you will see them weaving and knitting or farming and cooking on open fires - they are extremely proud of their culture and are so welcoming to visitors. We often hear the communities being regarded as some of the nicest and most polite groups of people our trekkers have ever met!
2) You get to experience all four seasons on one challenge
Peruvian climate is well known for being very diverse, it has 90 different microclimates, including 30 of the 32 world climates, which means you’re in for some varied weather on your trek!
You should be prepared for anything as you will trek through cold spells, low cloud, humidity and beautiful sunshine, so layers are a must.
Seeing the spectacular scenery in all conditions makes for some breathtaking views and incredible photo opportunities.
3) ALL THE LLAMAS!
Spotting Peru’s most famous residents, the llamas and alpacas, is such a highlight of this trek. There are more than 7 million llamas and alpacas in South America and each of the llamas who reside in Machu Picchu have their own name tag. You’ll find them roaming around the ancient ruins, ready to pose for a picture. No trip to Peru is complete without meeting these sacred animals!
