6 movies to watch when you want to travel without moving

WIth the recent winter storms battering the UK, we’re spending our evenings cosying up on the sofa with some snacks and taking in a movie or 2. But what do you watch when you want to feel the thrill of the adventure? Here are the movies we’ve saved to our favourites for those times when we want to transport ourselves to another world...

Into the wild

Based on a true story, this film captures the highs and lows of leaving your creature comforts and family behind to discover what lies beyond the path that’s been laid out for you. Every time we watch it, we want to pack it all in and run away to Alaska!

Up

A reminder that it’s never too late to pack up and head out into the unknown, and who wouldn't want to travel to the jungles of Latin America in a balloon-hoisted house!?

The Hobbit

Not everyone is born with a sense of adventure and sometimes it takes a little persuading. Such is the case with Bilbo Baggins who goes from homely house hobbit to swashbuckling explorer, complete with dwarf squad!

The goonies

A cult classic (featuring a very pre-Thanos Josh Brolin) that captures the magic of adventures shared with friends better than any other movie we know!

Wild

Another true story and book adaptation. Reese Witherspoon stars in this travel-as-redemption biopic set on the stunningly beautiful Pacific Crest Trail

The secret life of walter mitty

A lost item that beckons you to a surprise voyage. If this movie doesn't make you want to head out and experience the big wide world, we don't know what will! As one of the characters says: "Life is about courage and going into the unknown." Words to live by!
