26.2 'Dam Miles

Another weekend, another marathon! This year our runners out in Amsterdam came from Warwick, Newcastle and Plymouth, and had raised thousands of pounds for both Make a Wish and The Children's Society.

With their fundraising, these guys had achieved epic feats before they even set foot in the Netherlands.

Understandably, there were a few nerves amongst the group as we landed in Amsterdam, but the prevailing feeling was one of excitement - and a quick visit to the expo en route to our accommodation made it seem all the more real that our little team of 19 would soon be tackling 42.2km of Dutch cobblestones on Sunday.

The team enjoyed some free time exploring the city on Friday evening and Saturday.

The team tuck in to their carb-loading meal on Saturday evening.

We got the group all together on Saturday evening to have their carb-loading meal, and Cait hosted their marathon briefing ready for the challenge. Then, it was an early night and ready to go tomorrow!

Bright and early Sunday morning, with our Choose a Challenge flag in tow, Felix, Caitlin and I escorted the team down to the Olympisch Stadion, where Amsterdam Marathon famously both begins and ends.

Jokes at the Stadion before race start.

All around the Stadium, the atmosphere was electric. Cait took the team inside to the start line on the famous Olympic race track. Meanwhile, Felix and I took up our positions at strategic spots around the course.

After a last-minute bag drop, and a final sharing of fundraising pages, the race began, and our teams were finally crossing the start line to their marathon challenge.

Throughout the race, our runners smashed the course, including top 10 spots on our Marathon Leaderboard for both Niamh and Cian. All our runners finished, collecting their 2017 Amsterdam Marathon medals, and joined us for their final lap back inside the stadium.

Take a look at some of our favourite photos from a fantastic weekend in the gallery below:

A huge well done to all our marathon runners from Warwick, Newcastle and Plymouth universities who took part in our Amsterdam Marathon. You raised a phenomenal amount of money for two fantastic charities and we couldn't be more proud of you!

Until next year.
